What were your favorite board games growing up?
I co-created a trivia forum, www.ZoneTrivia.com and write and run a few live trivia games a week. This past week for one of my games I wrote the following question:
What board game was known as, “Electronic Cops and Robbers”?
None of the 20 or so players in the room knew the answer, nor had they even heard of the game after I told them the answer.
For those reading that also have no idea and would like to know, the answer is Stop Thief.
While I was growing up me and a few of my life-long friends would play it on a regular basis. Some of my other favorite games growing up included some commonly known games like Monopoly, The Game of Life, and Clue. Some of my more obscure favs included Stratego, Othello, and Trump. One game that I had gotten at a yard sale was named Ubi. My one niece who was just a few years younger than me, and I would sit and play that game for hours and hours. I loved it.
I have many fond memories of playing games throughout my life. Including some that are being made now. My wife and I have been getting together regularly with my in-laws, and brother-in-laws wife to play games like Cranium and Yahtzee.
Please share your favorite games with us, and maybe even some of your fond memories.
Also, since I am sure someone is going to want to list a card game or two, you can include them too if you want. Since I said that though, I have to mention a couple. I learned how to play poker when I was 6 years old. A favorite game around my house with the family was 7-card-no-peek. For those unfamiliar with the game it is poker rules, you get seven cards face down and as the name states you cannot peek at the cards. Players go in turn flipping one card at a time. You flip cards until you are in the lead or run out of cards. There are usually a lot of wild cards, the standard was always threes and nines were wild, and fours were a free card. My mom also taught me how to play Canasta when I was about 14 or so.
OK, back to it being your turn. . .
What are some of your favorite board games from the past, or present?

A couple of weeks ago a few of my friends and I got together and played the new electronic Monopoly. Now you use what is like an EFTPOS machine with credit cards and Community Chest, instead of making you the winner of a beauty contest, you win a reality TV show. It was brilliant fun!

The trivia site is in need of some housekeeping at the moment. I have been busy doing like 50 other things that I have slacked off a bit on the web site updates.
I liked Trouble, there was also another version of it, I think it was called Headache. Not sure what the purpose of it was, because if i remember right it was identical.
I haven't played the new electronic versions of games like Monopoly yet. I have played it in computer game form. That is ok, but not quite right. Recently though Pogo.com just added the newest version of the game to their list of many online games. It is the Monopoly Here & Now: The World Edition. Cities replace the original properties. It is a bit more fun cause you can play with friends. I play with good friends from Maryland and Texas from the comfort of my computer chair. Like anything new it takes some getting used to. My only complaint so far about the game is that some marketing genius somewhere didn't say "Well, we have to include Atlantic City, New Jersey on the board regardless of the other properties that are voted into the game."
I am originally from New Jersey and have enjoyed Atlantic City many times. It was nice to have the entire original game based on it. I just think it would have been nice for them to give it one space on the board. Also, I know the cities were voted on by people around the world, but i don't know how Montreal got the coveted Boardwalk spot on the board.
Anyway, i have rambled on enough for now. lol
