The Great Schlep
Comedienne Sarah Silverman is doing her part, in her own little way, to get Barack Obama elected the next President of the United States. She is working with the Jewish Council for Education and Research ( www.jcer.info ) in what they are calling “The Great Schlep.”
The Great Schlep’s focus is to
1) Educate the younger Jewish community on the candidates and their views.
2) To get them to go visit their grandparents in Florida (or anywhere for that matter, but especially Florida) and convince them that voting for Obama is a good idea.
The site includes a video of Silverman explaining it all which I have included below. Also on the site are “Talking Points” which includes a downloadable PDF file. The heading of the talking points reads, “Whether you’re visiting in person (Great Schlep) or making a phone call (Mini Schlep) here are some ways to talk to your grandparent about Obama. . . besides loudly.” The file contains a biography of Obama, his views and experience on foreign affairs, patriotism, social security, taxes, women, and there are two more topics. They are, “Barack <hearts> Isreal and so do you,” and “He’s black! Let’s talk about it!”
The Great Schlep started this past Columbus Day weekend, but continues on. It is still not too late to make a difference and help your grandparents see the real issues and the truth. Whether you are Jewish or not, make the Schlep! Of course if you are not Jewish you might need to avoid a couple of the talking points provided, and find a few on your own.

Again, Jewish or not, it is a great idea and movement, and the video is somewhat funny.
