Musky--A fish that can bite YOU!
Life has had me in a bind lately and I'll admit, I haven't gotten to fish nearly as much as I would like!
The last time I got to wet a line, they guy beside of me said, to no one in particular, "Still a little warm for muskies to be running."
The musky, or muskellunge as it's properly called, closely resembles the northern pike or American pickerel. Its shape is typical of ambush predators with an elongated body and flat head.

Pike--another fish with teeth
The other day I talked about muskies. To a lot of anglers, you can't talk about muskies and not mention pike. It's only natural because they look similar, both have teeth, and can be some of the most fierce fresh water fish you find.
Pike or, depending on your area, pickerel, are usually brown or green in color with lighter splotches. Their coloration is used to their advantage as camouflage to ambush unsuspecting prey. Walleye are sometimes mistakenly called pickerel because the term is used to identify small pike. Although walleye are another fish with teeth, the two fish are unrelated. AND you must realize the comments about coloration are just guidelines! Pike are seldom a true green or a true brown. . .
