Hypocrite – Idiocy ticket for President in 08
I am sure by now many of you have heard the Republicans are in an uproar over Barack Obama’s use of the very old and oft-used phrase about how a pig wearing lipstick is still just a pig. He also followed that phrase with another one about wrapping an old fish in a paper called change, and how it is still going to stink.
My first problem with Republicans being upset over these phrases is – If we contend that the lipstick comment was describing Palin, then we also need to contend that the old fish that stinks would be McCain. Why do they not care about him calling McCain an old stinky fish? Well, because no one would care at all about McCain being called an old stinky fish. It also makes you wonder if that is how the GOP sees McCain in their own eyes.
Now, I certainly do not contend that the above paragraph is anything near the truth. I do not think either comment was directed toward either candidate, but rather toward their claims of “change.”
Before I go on, here is the more extensive clip of Obama’s comments. If you hear the couple of lines that precede the pig and fish phrases you (as long as you aren’t a Republican) will see just what Senator Obama meant.
Oh, by the way, some Republicans understood what Obama meant. Even ones that spoke out strongly FOR McCain/Palin at the recent Republican National Convention. To top it off, they even let him say it on Fox News. It must have slipped past their “truth censors” and made it on the air. Here is a clip of Mike Huckabee commenting on Obama’s use of the phrase while being interviewed on Fox News Channel.
I have one more video clip to show you all. I must attach a warning to this video clip, however.
DISCLAIMER: If you are a Republican, the audio of this clip will, potentially, sound much different than it sounds to the rest of the world. It will probably sound very similar to Charlie Brown’s teacher’s voice, or perhaps be John McCain’s voice saying things like, “Hillary Clinton is the devil” again and again.
So, Senator McCain described Hillary Clinton’s healthcare plan -- which he professes is the same plan they tried passing back in 1993 -- as “they put some lipstick on the pig, but it’s still a pig.”
Well, if using that phrase while talking about the McCain/Palin policies is a sexist remark against Palin, wouldn’t making that comment while talking directly about one of Hillary Clinton’s plans also be sexist?
I personally feel that neither of their uses of the phrase were directed at Palin or Hillary.
Obama responded to McCain’s campaign’s claims that it was a sexist remark directed at Palin by calling the claims "lies and phony outrage and Swift-boat politics,” and "the latest made-up controversy by the John McCain campaign.”
Senator Obama continued, "I don't care what they say about me. But I love this country too much to let them take over another election with lies and phony outrage and Swift-boat politics. Enough is enough."
That comment was in reference to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, an outside group that put together a bunch of lies and unsubstantiated allegations in a successful attempt to block John Kerry from winning the 2004 Presidential election. You can read more of the facts about the Swift Boat lies by clicking here to read a recent article I posted.
The McCain campaign released a new ad early Wednesday that was obviously just sitting there waiting for a chance to be launched. In making up controversy about the remark, it gave them the opportunity to use the ad. This new ad talks about Palin and then moves on to say of Obama: “Ready to lead? No. Ready to smear? Yes.”
Obama was at a Norfolk high school Wednesday morning for a discussion on education. He started off by saying, "What their campaign has done this morning is the same game that has made people sick and tired of politics in this country. They seize on an innocent remark, try to take it out of context, and throw up an outrageous ad because they know that it's catnip for the news media.”
Please notice behind the lipstick is not Governor Palin (nor Senator McCain because that would just be creepy). . . but instead it is their campaign's claim about how their policies support "change."

i think the comment has been blown way out of proportion, "lipstick on a pig" is a common expression" and actually a turn of phrase i most associate with conservatives mocking attempts at progress

I just think it gave them a spot to make some fake controversy and give them the opening to release the new ad they have probably had ready since about June or so.

Let's hope the majority of the American voters feel that way too.
