The Election Won’t End Until November 14th
Let the lawyering begin! The state of Virginia has ruled today that the absentee ballots from overseas will indeed be counted. I am entirely in favor of their votes counting. It seems the ballots got to many in the military serving overseas late. Of course Republicans cried foul and said it was a conspiracy. Wake up! Things happen, they got there late. Not because Obama paid off some postal worker in short pants, but just because something happened and they were late.
The Virginia ruling will allow all ballots postmarked by today, Tuesday, November 4th, 2008 and received by November 14th to be counted. This will of course only matter if things come down to being too close to call. While watching election coverage at the moment they have said it is just a matter of the McCain campaign “crossing the t’s and dotting the I’s.” I agree, regardless of which side you are on, sadly you have to do stuff like this in this day and age. Both sides have a team of lawyers sitting in wait to handle things like this. Again, I totally agree with the votes counting. I just hate that the state of politics has made it necessary for lawyers to be ready to try and change things, but again on both sides it truly is needed now.
I am interested to see what the results of the overseas military vote. Sure McCain is a P.O.W. and all, and searved in the military, but he is also the guy who says American troops might remain in Iraq for 100 years.
“Hey, Joe the Grunt?”
“Yeah, what do you want? Can’t you see I am in a fire fight here in the city streets of Iraq?”
“Here is your ballot for the presidential election.”
“Oh, why didn’t you say so.” ::: Joe the Grunt stands up motioning for a timeout to the referee :::
Joe ponders silently to himself – “Well, do I want the old guy and the chick from Alaska that will keep sending me and my buddies back here for decades, or into Iran, Korea, India, Canada to fight terrorism? OR Do I want the guy who wants to have a plan to get my ass out of here before I lose chunks of it, and maybe send me after the real threat in places like Afghanistan so we actually have enough troops there to flush out Osama Bin Laden and his friends?”

We will just have to wait and see how that vote goes, but again I am interested to see how their votes end up, one way or the other.
So, the votes will count in the overall popular vote, but I don’t think things will be close enough by the end of the night that we will have to wait until the 14th to see who wins.
