Nope, No Gun Control Needed. . . or Common Sense for that Matter!
I would like to begin by asking who in their right mind hands an 8-year-old an Uzi sub-machine gun to fire? Regardless of any permission given by a parent or guardian, or any supervision from a licensed idio..umm professional.
Tragically an 8-year-old died on Sunday after accidentally shooting himself in the head at a gun fair in Massachusetts. Christopher Bizilj of Ashford, Connecticut was at the Machine Gun Shoot and Firearms Expo at the Westfield Sportsman’s Club in Westfield, Mass.
The police statement pointed out that Christopher was with a certified instructor, and “was shooting the weapon down range when the force of the weapon made it travel up and back toward his head, where he suffered the injury.” They also said that he was at the fair with his father, but it was unclear if he was at the range with his son at the time of the incident.
Police Lt. Hipolito Nunez pointed out that it is indeed legal for children to fire a weapon as long as they have permission from their parent or guardian, and are accompanied by a certified instructor.
At the event people are allowed to fire weapons at things like pumpkins, and even vehicles.
Unfortunately common sense isn’t on the certification test to become an instructor, or for that matter a father. A little side note, an Uzi submachine gun was included in the “Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 (a.k.a. The Federal Assault Weapons Ban / the Bill Clinton Gun Ban Bill of 1994) that was allowed to expire in 2004, and would have been in numerous bills since then, if they had been passed.
