Another Horror Remake That Looks Pretty Good - My Bloody Valentine - 3D
I remember being terrified by the original My Bloody Valentine as a young child. The first time I saw it I had tagged along with my older brother and sister to a family of family friend's house for the weekly poker night. It was more about getting together for a few hours than it was about the poker. At least that is how I remember it. I sat in the living room watching television. i believe at this point we didn't have cable, but they did. Anyway I found the original just about to start and went to get a drink and go to the bathroom so i wouldn't miss any of it. I haven't seen it in a very long time. The way I remember it was as a dark film, as in lighting. It was set in mines and a mining town, so darkness came sort of natural I guess. I remember a lot of blood too, which makes it an aptly named film of course. I think it was pretty terrifying, but at the same time I think at some point I got bored with some slow spots in the film and was wandering away from the screen again and again.
Enough about my memories though, although I think I might watch the original before seeing this new remake, or maybe vice versa since this new one looks really good.
This new remake is in 3-D which of course makes everything better. Just ask Weird Al Yankovic (those that have watched VH-1 Classic's "I Love the '80s: 3-D" will get that - othrs should watch I Love the '80s: 3-D!) Special Effects aside the film has a nice starring cast.
The cast includes: Jensen Ackles (Supernatural, Smallville, Dark Angel, Dawson's Creek), Jaime King (Gary Unmarried, The Class, Kitchen Confidential, Sin City, White Chicks), Kerr Smith (Justice, E-Ring, Charmed, Dawson's Creek), and Edi Gathegi (House, M.D.)
The director of this new 3-D take is Patrick Lussier. He has directed White Noise 2: The Light, and Wes Craven's Dracula 2000, as well as its two straight to video sequels.
The movie synopsis from www.imdb.com is as follows -
Tom (Ackles) returns to his hometown on the tenth anniversary of the Valentine's night massacre that claimed the lives of 22 people. Instead of a homecoming, however, Tom finds himself suspected of committing the murders, and it seems like his old flame (King) is the only one who believes he's innocent.
Again, from the trailer and cast I would recommend seeing this film when it comes out. The release date is set for January 16th, 2009. A bit early for Valentine's Day, but probably a good date movie for the twisted.

3D should be interesting, as long as they don't overdo it, and it comes off looking lame.
I think I need to revisit the original at some point too.

The original is one of my favourite slasher flicks. However it was cut to shreds by the MPAA when it was released, and myself, along with many other horrorphiles, are hopping one day Paramount sees the light (or dark, depending on how you look at it) and decides to release an unrated version on DVD ...
As for remakes of classics .... Generally I can't stand the idea.

Yeah, if they overdo the 3D it could be really bad. I think that pick axe flying off the screen will be pretty good though. I usually don't go out and see a movie at the movies cause it costs like $350 for two to go, but with it being in 3D I think I might have to go to the theater.

I am surprised they haven't already released the unrated version yet. It seems nowadays they are releasing EVERYTHING with extras on DVD. Even things that shouldn't be.
With this cast I think this could work, but you never know.

Paramount are playing difficult buggers, and they hold the copyright to the original.
I remember signing a petition a couple years back, to get the original released uncut ... not sure what happened to it.
I've got the issue of Fangoria mag from when the original came out with juicy special effects make-up shots that were cut out.

Not very impressed.
3D is just too damn gimmicky.
I remember seeing Friday the 13th - Part III in 3D at the movies. Tacky.
The producers are obviously hesitant about releasing the movie actually on Feb. 14 .... lol
