Dung Bunnies Anyone?

Dung Bunnies Anyone?

I came across an, umm, lets say interesting site recently. It was called Dung Bunnies. An artist named Susan Bell who normally specializes in “traditional wildlife” paintings used former New York City Mayor and presidential candidate Rudy Gulliani as her inspiration for something a little bit different. She had a problem, and found a solution.

Bells problem was that she owned horses that produced a lot of manure. She heard Gulliani speaking out against an elephant dung encrusted sculpture of the Virgin Mary, and soon after put #2 and #2 together for her solution.

She began sculpting her horses manure into things like bunnies, snails, birds, frogs, and much more. She now even makes an ass out of manure, and a donkey too. The first ass I referred to was a politician sculpture.

They are meant to be multi-purpose garden sculptures. You take your little manure bunny and place it out in your flower bed for decoration and over the course of a year or so it decomposes. As it does it fertilizes your plants. It is somewhat ingenious in a twisted kind of way really.

I am wondering what they look like as they are deteriorating. I have read some testimonials from people that love them. Some even say the sculptures are odorless so they use them on their indoor plants too. Now you know where you can get the really “shitty” conversation pieces.

Bell sells them out of her gallery in Denver, Colorado, as well as online. Prices range from $8 for a snail up to $40 for a large donkey. Some others include: a Large Bunny, which is about the size of a real adult bunny, for $28; a small frog prince; small turtle; small squirrel all for $10 each; a large cat for $28; and a medium-sized wedding couple for $12. The large politician costs $35. The site says “large” is adult bunny size, while “small” is a baby bunny size.

I am not exactly sure what to think about these things, but it is true that every person’s idea of art is different.
