Doctor, Doctor! Who is your favorite TV Doc?
July 25th 2008 20:20
While watching TV last night I saw a commercial for the show E.R., it included a big tease for Dr. John Carter (Noah Wyle) making his return for the final season of the show. I loved the character of Carter, and was sad when he left, it will be good to have him back for the final year of the show.
It made me start thinking about other TV doctors I have liked over the years, Hawkeye Pierce, B.J. Hunnicut, Gregory House, many of the docs on St. Elsewhere, and the list goes on and on.
So, who are your favorite TV doctors? Do you prefer the old school docs like Ben Casey and Dr. Kildare, or do you lean towards the medical examiners like Quincy and Ducky(NCIS). How about the new breed of younger sexier doctors on Grey's Anatomy or E.R, or the older E.R. docs like Doug Ross, and Peter Benton.
Let us know which TV Docs you like.

Frasier Crane would be close to the top of the list - though Dr Cheggley from 'Julia' always seemed like a personable fellow when the program aired back in the early 70's.
Dr Smith from Lost In Space would come a fair way down the list - while the team from MASH would no doubt finish at the top of a lot of lists I'd imagine.
Cheers

I meant to include some psychiatrists/psycologist on my list, but then apparently forgot them. lol
Frasier is definitely up there on the list. He might even be the #1 in his specialty, although Bob Hartley, and Jason Seaver might give him a run for his money. Sidney Freedman would be a good 4th too.
I never got to see Julia. Mainly because I was born the year it went off the air, and to my recollection they haven't aired the reruns much if at all. So I will take your word for it.
I think M*A*S*H would definitely win for group of docs, with Hawkeye coming at or near the top of many people's lists.

House did make it rather quickly into at the very least the top 10 docs. He will need to stick around a bit longer to move past some of the classics though.
I would personally prefer Drake's evil twin brother, but i don't remember if he was an actual doctor or not. I also like your thinking outside the box by picking a doctor character on a show within the show portrayed by a show's character.

How about Dr Who or Dr Bones McCoy for Star Trek?
A few others I like:
Dr Cox from Scrubs
Dr Richard on China Beach
Dr. Joel Fleischman on Northern Exposure
Doc Cochran on Deadwood
Dr Nick Riviera on The Simpsons
Dr Richard Kimble in The Fugitive

I liked best! I always like the current one, because I am always completely there with him. Anyone out there who isn't into Dr Who don't bother replying - if you don't love it now, you never will.

All very god choices. I bet I could get a bunch of responses for a post of just, "Which Dr. Who do you prefer?", or "Who is your favorite Star Trek universe doctor?"
Scrubs is one of my favorite current shows. I am surprised I didn't remember it and include a cast picture while I was posting.
Nick Riviera is an interesting choice. lol

lol. . . See my previous comment about Dr. Who, and McCoy. Dr. Hibbert is a nice addition, he has his own little quirks, but nothing like Dr. Nick.

House seems to be in the lead thus far here. I certaihnly do like him a lot, and love Hugh Laurie. I am amazed how he loses the natural British accent for the role. I just think he needs another couple years to be closer to the top of the list, but definitely top 10 so far.
I am glad someone mentioned Dr. Mark Green. I really like Anthony Edwards, ever since his days as a stoner emerging from a van in a cloud of smoke in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
When Northern Exposure was on TV it was hit or miss on whether I was home to watch it or not, but what i did see was funny. I also like the actor that portrayed him who is now in Numb3rs.

Voyager is probably my favorite Star Trek series, and the Holo-Doc is a great pick!
At this point I feel the need to at least mention Dr. Jullian Bashir from Deep Space Nine. The show and he never get any love.

I am very surprised that you are the first to mention Clooney, and also anyone from Grey's Anatomy.
Excellent pick with Gordon Gordon, I totally didn't even think about him in the mix of dozens of doctors that rushed to my mind while posting this. i would also include Bones herself on the list.

I'm going to throw Dana Scully from X-Files into the ring. Her character was a medical doctor as well as an FBI agent. She was cool, smart and outfoxed Fox on many occasions.

With so much going on on the show Friends it is easy to forget that Ross was an actual doctor. Also another outside of the box pick.
Next you will be picking that crazy dentist from Seinfeld.

Dana Scully is a good pick, also another we forget was actually a doctor. Plus now she lives on in the new movie too.

Good choices. Nice to see Cliff Huxtable finally mentioned. Lillith Crane is another outside of the box pick. She was a good supporting character though.
