Condom (Yes, that is the entire title of this post, just Condom.)
Two guys in India along with the BBC World Service Trust have found a unique way to help fight the spread of HIV/AIDS.
According to their latest figures an astounding 2.4 million people are living with HIV in the country. The worldwide fight against the disease apparently hasn’t reached the Sub-Continent yet. It seems only sex workers and men who have sex with other men have access to the countries HIV prevention measures. Sex education is still frowned upon in the country. So much so that less than one-third of the young population surveyed could correctly identify the ways to prevent HIV infection.
I assume you are now asking what the unique way to help fight the spread of the diseases is, so I will tell you. The BBC worked with Rupert Fernandes and Vijay Prakash to create a ringtone. Fernandes composed it, and Prakash sings it. The only lyric in the song is the word “Condom” strung together in a melodic tune.
There are 2.4 million people living in India that have mobile phones. Chances are quite a few of them will purchases the ringtone. Thus far it has been purchased and downloaded over 270,000 times since last month when it was released.
You can listen to it, or buy it and download it by going to www.condomcondom.org . The ringtone will begin playing once you get there then switch to an information page.
Personally I think anything that can spread the word about safe sex is a good thing. Non-Sex education leads to ignorance about sex. Ignorance about sex leads to things like teen/unwanted pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and of course HIV/AIDS spreading even more. Abstinence only sex education is ridiculous and eventually fails on some level or another. :: steps down off soapbox:::
It is also rather comical though. Which should help spread the word even more. The thing I found funniest about this whole thing – make sure you are watching the screen as you listen to the melody. Take note of what forms on your screen. Then come back and laugh.

Don't think I could handle it as a ring tone though

I totally agree on all points. I could see the phone ringing with that ringtone at say...Christmas as the In-Laws with the entire family there. That would get some looks.

I can see it now...the phone rings... condomcondcomcondomcondom...
People begin to shhhhh you, but then they hear what the ringtone is and begin to giggle slightly, and then just stare at you oddly.
Thank you very much but I will stick with my clip from Shock Me by KISS that I made on my own.
